Day 3: Sun 12 Nov 17: Chennai, 10 km
Brekky was a mix of Indian and European, plenty of good coffee, cornflakes, fresh paw paw, cluggy rice dish, curry sauces, coconut chutney, boiled eggs, followed by a piece of toast and jam. Need a ride after all that!
Due to the size of the local temple complex it’s not possible to take it all in during one day, so we struck out again for another dose of temp(le)tation. This time everyone (except Ken who is arriving tonight) joined us for a guided tour. I think I found the guy from the Telstra Helpdesk as I couldn’t understand him today either. Tourist Guide by day, Telstra Helpdesk by night. But it was certainly worth a second visit and a look at some of the stuff we hadn’t seen before. The complex is actually 1,000 to 3,500 years old, so I did understand something the guide said.
Phil and I felt like a non-curry lunch so we went to the restaurant next door to the hotel and got a nice fried rice with chicken, $6.
It was then time to fit our pedals, bags and nick knacks to our hire bikes. Mine is a fairly new Scott and pretty darn good, really happy to have a decent bike.
Phil, Bob and I then went for a spin to a couple of temples we hadn’t seen. The traffic was slow and courteous. Later in the afternoon we all got on the bikes and did a shake out 10k ride to Tiger Cave, which was out of town a bit. All went well.
Dinner was at the Moonraker Bar just around the corner. A bottle of beer was $6, while a very tasty chicken curry dish was $3.60! Great atmosphere and a good night out.
I got around the dodgy WiFi by downloading the photos later in the night when it’s a bit quieter. I suspect that they have a fairly narrow bandwidth.
